"Bag It" - Film Showing
Film Programs

Film showing: Sunday, October 10, at 2 p.m.
“Bag It,” an award-winning documentary film that examines society’s use and abuse of plastic, follows an average American who makes a pledge to stop using plastic bags. This simple action leads him to embark on a global tour to unravel the complexities of our plastic world.. Following the screening, a discussion will be held led by Kim Stone, associate director of Safer Pest Control Project, a nonprofit organization based in Chicago, and William Bogot, chairman of the Highland Park Environmental Commission.
The event is presented with the Highland Park Environmental Commission and the League of Women Voters.

A Senior Resource Specialist will be available to provide information, assistance and advocacy on issues important to seniors, and can answer such questions as:
-My income has been significantly reduced. Where can I turn for help?
-My new job doesn't begin until next month and my utility bills are past due. What can I do?
CJE SeniorLife is a partner in serving our community, supported by the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago. Project Connect is being piloted in Chicago and in Skokie with generous grants from the Polk Bros. Foundation and the Jewish Federation's J-HELP initiative.
J-HELP serves adults 60 and over by providing assistance in identifying and applying for government benefits and other resources to chronically disadvantaged or those affected by the current economic situation.

Mothers Writing... Right from the Start

Local Hispanic women who participated in Family Network’s Right from the Start program, a writing workshop that was a joint project of Family Network’s Right from the Start, the Interfaith Housing Center of The Northern Suburbs, and the Community Writing Project at the University of Illinois, share personal narrative stories about everyday life that were published in the magazine Real Conditions.

Six bonobo apes use American Sign Language to communicate with humans in Sara Gruen's story about animal research, animal rights, and human-animal relationships.
